Makisha Miller #3

Video #1

1.       Problems students might encounter are students who do not respect their opinions and students who take over the projects. They may not understand all aspects of the projects and shy away from doing their part to learn from the project.

2.       Contracts can be designed to assure that all students do their part. Contracts can be used to assign all students a job and then hold them accountable for that job.

3.       Checks and balances for contracts to be effective are rules and responsibilities assigned to each student, consequences if assignment is not completed or if student is not doing their part.

1.       I noticed that when students were being called using popsicle sticks, they were more engaged and excited to see who would be picked next. The students all felt like they had an equal chance of being chosen and knew that they all had a responsibility to be ready to answer at any time.

2.       When Mrs. Jackson switched to groups I noticed that the children began taking responsibility for their learning and where more willing to talk out the answers with a partner to make sure that they were  on the right track.

3.       I noticed that she was using more open-ended questions so the students were able to answer her questions in a variety of ways.

I think PBL's and collaborative groups work well with the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate. The PBL's and collaborative groups work together with the Profile of South Carolina Graduate to get students ready for the real world. Using PBL's and collaborative groups help students to get use to working with others and teaches them teamwork. It  also teaches them to be accountable for their part of the job. It teaches them that sometimes it takes a team in order to get some thing done and that sometimes 2,3, or 4 brains are better than one.

  3. Hey Makisha! I completely agree that student took more responsibilty of their learning when she moved them into groups! I loved that the students were named after colleges, because this helps set goals for them and learn that they can go to college as long as the keep up the good work!
